Advantages and Field Applications of Medical Plastic Injection Molding

Ⅰ. The benefits of medical plastic injection molding

Due to the increased versatility of medical device plastics and the ability to combine with metals to create enhanced medical product attributes, medical-grade plastics have become the material of choice for many types of electronic medical devices. Some of the advantages that a medical injection molding company can offer include:

1. Improved ergonomics;

2. Reduce weight;

3. Add function;

4. Lower cost;

5. Reduce the burden of sterilization.

Ⅱ. Why is medical plastic injection molding important in the medical field?

The use of plastics in modern medicine has steadily increased since its inception. Medical devices manufactured from injection molded plastic help reduce healthcare costs, infectious diseases and pain management. High-tech polymers are used in the prototyping of medical devices, often to create improved prosthetics and devices that reduce the risk of infection. Medical plastic injection molding directly improves patient safety and the ability to save more lives.

Ⅲ. Application of medical plastic injection molding for medical devices

Use our medical injection molding process to produce delivery devices for stents, implants, sutures and more. We also provide assembly services for sub-assemblies of larger, more complex medical devices. In addition to plastic injection molding for medical applications, we also manufacture plastic moldings that house other non-plastic components or mechanisms.

Our medical insert molding process can create housings for medical devices including:

1. Medical casing;

2. Medical knob;

3. Needle;

4. Surgical instruments and blades;

5. Pipe;

6. Dental instruments;

7. Medical equipment components;

8. Prosthetics.

We use state-of-the-art vertical medical injection molding workstations dedicated to the process of manufacturing parts, assemblies and products for the medical industry. We also have strong relationships with several trusted suppliers who draw on our experience in the industry to provide us with quality metal components for our medical device injection molding projects

Ⅳ. Medical plastic injection molding materials for medical devices

Our medical grade plastic materials for medical injection molding have high molecular weight and are chemical and heat resistant. Each thermoplastic used in medical molding also has different benefits and qualities that you need to review before selecting a material for your injection molding application.

1. Polycarbonate

Naturally transparent and commonly used in medical tubing, this medical-grade plastic has high tensile, shear, and flexural strength. It also offers high heat resistance, low moisture absorption, and is stronger than acrylic.

2. PEEK

A special medical-grade plastic resin that is highly resistant to chemicals, cracking and fatigue and is autoclave sterilizable. It is FDA approved for food contact and has a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating.

3. Ultem™

Used in medical devices and sterilized by autoclaving. It resists environmental stress and cracking, provides excellent dimensional stability and possesses exceptional strength and stiffness.

We also employ several specialized medical grade plastics with lactone resins and fillers such as glass fiber carbon fiber, talc or custom color compounds. This provides certain mechanical advantages or other unique properties to the application.
